The operating system that you choose for your hosting has absolutely nothing to do with the one that you are using on your computer. You must make a decision based on your website’s operating requirements.
More specifically, you need a Windows hosting if you need it to support ASP/.NET/MSSQL/Access/frontpage technologies. In most cases, Linux hosting is sufficient and provides a better support for PHP/Perl/CGI/MySQL technologies. A static html/flash/graphics site can be hosted by either Windows or Linux hosting.
If you choose Linux hosting, you don’t need to have Unix management knowledge for your plan. Whether you use a Windows or a Linux plan, you will be managing your plan’s services through the Plesk Panel GUI.
